PREPARATORY SCHOOL
The Preparatory Unit of NAB plays a vital role in preparing the children for integration in the mainstream education. The
Visually impaired students of age group 4 to 7 are admitted in the Preparatory Unit. The children are taught various skills like Daily Living Skills such as eating, dressing, maintaining school bag etc, Tactile stimulation, Auditory stimulation, Orientation and Mobility within the school premises and outside,crossing roads, Reading and writing in Braille, working on Taylor Frame to write numbers and do mathematical calculations. The Low Vision students are trained to read and write print work in large print.

The students are also given keyboard orientation to work on a computer fitted with screen reading software. Besides, they learn music and craft. Sometimes the parents are also trained in handling young visually impaired children. The students take one to three years to be prepared for integration in mainstream schools. The students are assessed from time to time. The students undergo admission tests in various schools and get admitted in Class I or II. |
